Perth City to Surf delivered the goods! The weather was spectacular, a gentle tailwind to assist, and as always, a vibrant and pumping atmosphere.
The Aspire To Run crew were, in their own right, on fire!
Starting with the Blue Ribbon 12km event…
Despite the notorious hills, Coach Nathaniel managed to run a quicker time than previously done at the HBF Run For a Reason in May. Coming in 20th out of 8000 runners, Nathaniel crossed the line in 46.30 (3.52 min/km).
He wasn’t the only one on fire, Liane Maraldi and Donnelle Hestellow picked up 5km and 10km Personal Bests on their way to running 1.00.07 net (5.07 min/km) and 1.02.20 (5.11 min/km) respectively.
Our father-daughter duo, Tony and Holly Booker showed true team spirit crossing the line in 1.12.25 (6.09 min/km). We should mention that Holly is 13 years old, and since joining our Kids Adventure Running has gone from strength to strength, transitioning to our adult recreational squad.
Justine Leavy is our longest standing member, she’s been committed since day one and jumped in to run 1.20.00 (6.46 min/km). Kate Laird wasn’t far behind, running 1.20.53 (6.51 min/km).
In the Half Marathon, Mark ran a comfortable 1.43.42 (4.55 min/km) despite a week of travel and a late flight home as his final preparation, awesome work Mark. Rachel Bozier is a machine, completing the half in 1.54.37 (5.28 min/km) before continuing to round the 21.2km up to 32km. She’s got her eyes set on Melbourne Marathon and nothing is going to stand in her way.
For any runner, but especially for someone new to running, the half marathon debut is an extremely rewarding experience. It takes a lot of commitment and preparation to have an enjoyable debut, let alone running a distance that once seemed impossible. We’re so proud of Suda Swaminathan running 2.44.07 (7.46 min/km).
We had three runners’ in the 4km event, Tarrah Pennycuick pulled together for a 26.37 (6.59 min/km) despite a less than ideal lead up to the event. Juniors, Elouise Sheldrick and Isabel Sheldrick ran 26.35 (6.55 min/km) and 27.24 (7.08 min/km) soaking up the fun.
Well done to everyone who got involved, it’s always awesome to see Perth out and active and having fun at the same time.
